"I did it!"

"Did what?" Clover asked curiously as she opened her locker to find her history book.

"I broke up with Buddy," Patch just told, what will be the newest gossip in the school, to Clover and Bonbon.

"Whoa," Clover dropped her book when she heard the news, "Why? What happened?"

"I want to know why you look so happy about it? I thought you really liked him?" Bonbon and Clover leaned in as Patch was about to tell them what happened.

"Well, last night we went to the movies to see 'City of Angels'. Sorry if I give away the ending but it fits in with what happened. The angel gave up life as an angel so he can live with his love on earth. The morning after they spent the night together she goes on a bike ride and gets hit by a truck and dies. Buddy laughed so loud, everyone turned and stared at us."

Clover and Bonbon stood in disbelief. They couldn't understand her reasoning. She made fun of those sappy love stories, too.

"You broke up with him cause he laughed at a movie?"

"Patch, for real, that's a harmless crime," Bonbon copied down a few of Clover's history notes she had missed in Friday's class.

"I realize that we're better off as friends. As a friend I would expect him to laugh at stuff like that. As a boyfriend I would expect him to. . ."

"To what?" Bonbon really wanted to hear the ending to her sentence.

"Not laugh," laughed Clover, as Patch smiled and walked off.

Buddy had avoided Patch all day. He didn't even breathe a word of the breakup to anyone. After school he got in his old dodge truck and headed over to Teddy's house. Getting out of the truck, he looked around for Teddy. He dreaded knocking on the door to face Teddy's father. Buddy finally spotted him looking under the hood of his beat up car.

"Teddy!"

Teddy jumped when he heard his name, banging his head on the opened hood.

"Owww, thanks!" Teddy rubbed the back of his head.

"Patch broke up with me."

"Oh man, what happened?"

"I'm not quite sure why. We were watching a movie and I laugh at the ending and. . ."

"Whoa, you what?"

"Laughed at the ending," Buddy confirmed.

"Was it a chick flick?"

"Why?"

"I found out the hard way, girls get offended when you rip on those sappy movies. Sweetheart didn't talk to me for weeks when I made fun of. . ." Teddy had a blank stare on his face, "I don't remember which one it was. The point is you just don't laugh at them."

"But Patch and I always make fun of those kind of movies when we were friends," now Buddy was really confused.

"What did you think? By becoming boyfriend/girlfriend everything would be the same, but you get to make out?" Teddy leaned against his car awaiting an answer.

"Well, a, yeah,"

"Wrong, don't we all wish it was that easy."

Melody walked to the Ice Cream Shoppe after school to get her usual hot fudge sundae.

"Starlight, can I get the usual?" asked Melody as she sat down at the counter, "can it be on the house?"

"Sure it can."

"Really?"

"No, how do expect us to stay in business if I don't charge my friends for ice cream," Starlight finished wiping off the counter and then prepared Melody's sundae.

"Hey Mel, hey Starlight," Sweetheart sat down beside Melody.

"What could I get you, Sweetheart?" asked Starlight as she gave Melody her sundae.

"Oh, no thanks Star, I don't want any ice cream."

"Why not, cause she makes us pay for it," laughed Melody.

"No that's not the reason. I was looking for Teddy. Have either of you seen him?"

"He wasn't in our last class. Maybe he skipped," Melody informed her.

"He usually tells me when he's going to do that," Sweetheart looked up at Starlight.

"Ace is in the weight room at school. He might know where Teddy is."

Sweetheart smiled at here friends and went off to find Ace.

"Hey, want to go for a ride?" Buddy wondered after watching Teddy try to fix his car for a few minutes.

"Where are we going?"

"Anywhere, I just want to be anywhere but here."

After Teddy agreed to go, he looked at his car, then at Buddy's truck. Since it was a Friday night, Teddy figured they'd have some fun. Maybe Buddy could think of something besides Patch.

"Are we renting a car?"

"What!?!? My truck runs like a dream."

"Right," Teddy rolled his eyes after looking at the truck.

"You coming?"

Buddy jumped in his truck determined to leave with or without Teddy. Teddy knew that he shouldn't let Buddy go alone. He probably needs someone to talk to now. Why did you pick me? Where's Chase? They are best friends and usually do all this sort of stuff together.

Teddy glanced around at his house and car. He debated whether to tell his father he would be gone for a while.

"What the heck, let's go."

Without telling anyone, Teddy and Buddy drove off. They decided to get on the highway and see where they would end up.
