Thunder and Moonbeam bumped into each other at a bus station. Waiting for the train their eyes caught each other's attention and it was like love at first sight. From that day on they were inseparable for weeks. Thunder knew she was the one he was destine to be with for the rest of his life. She was his soul mate. So he decided to propose marriage. She didn't know how to answer the question. She finally told him she would have to think about.

The sky began to change from evening to night. One by one the stars were appearing in the darkening sky. The movie at the drive-in had already started. The moon gave off just enough light, Lancer grabbed Brighteye's hoof and helped her climb on top of her garage. They sat beside each other.

"See Lance, I told you, you could see the theater from here."

"Yeah, that's true, but there's no sound and the movie already started."

"Who needs sound when we have our imagination," Brighteyes leaned back against his chest, "I always come up here to watch the movies. I never have to pay and I can use my imagination to figure out what's going on. Half the time it's just so predictable." Brighteyes let out a sigh, "you know, you're the only one who knows that I come up here."

Lancer looked down at her, "Really, well why did you let me know about it?"

"I can trust you. Well I mean I trust the gang and everything, but I don't think they'd understand like you do."

Lancer kissed her cheek and hugged her as they both turned to watch the movie that was already in progress. Brighteyes looked up at him, "So did you see the previews for this one? How do you think it'll end?"

"He's gonna get the girl."

"Oh, really you think so, I think she's an independent woman and follows her own path, not someone else's."

"We'll have to watch and see. Who's ever wrong has to buy the other on ice cream sundae."

"Deal," they kissed on it.

Lancer sat nervously and watched the movie. Half way through, he turned to Brighteyes.

"Brighteyes, uh, I need, well may I," Lancer nervously tried to ask her his question.

"Yes, Lancer, what is it?" Brighteyes looked into his eyes.

"Um, I have something for you," Her eyes lit up as she looked into his. He seemed sure of himself, but he just couldn't get the words out.

"This is for you," Lancer got out a little black box.

Brighteyes nervously bit her bottom lip. What is he doing? What is he thinking? We're way too young. A whirl wind of thoughts swirled around her head. Now her heart was pounding like a drum.

"Brighteyes," Lancer opened the box and showed her the beautiful, expensive ring inside.

She began to breathe heavily, now. Lancer looked into her terrified eyes.

"Relax, it's a promise ring," Lancer pulled it out of the box and put it on a gold chain. She pulled her mane to the side and he fastened the necklace around her neck.

"Oh, Lance, it's beautiful. Thank you, never do that to me again. I almost had a heart attack." Brighteyes playfully slapped his arm.

"Is he crazy? Asking me to marry him after only a couple of months. I have to think about what I want. Yes he's a terrific guy and everything but I'm I really ready to get married," Moonbeam could not stop thinking about the question Thunder had asked her the night before. She paced around her room. Then she decided to make a list of the pro's and con's. If she was going to make a decision, she wanted to make the right one.

Brighteyes sat at the table in the cafeteria with one hoof on her forehead and the other showing off the beautiful ring she received the night before. The gang all starred at the ring. Melody grabbed it to take a closer look.

"Oh, how romantic," Sweetheart smiled.

"What!! This is terrible,"

"Brighteyes, why is it so terrible?" questioned Sweetheart.

"I can't believe I'm saying this, but Lancer is like the perfect guy. He's sweet, rich, caring, smart, rich, sensitive, did I mention he's rich," Melody took one last look at the ring before giving it back to Brighteyes.

"I'm fully aware of all that Mel, but. . ."

"But what?" Melody and Sweetheart asked simultaneously.

"I'm not ready to get serious with him or anyone for that matter. I know you want to get married someday Sweetheart and so do you Mel, but my career is what I'm interested in right now. Maybe after that's squared away then I can think about commitment and marriage." Brighteyes starred across the table at her friends.

"How long do you think it will take before another girl comes along and steals his heart?" asked Melody.

"Well if that happens then I'll know he's not the one for me."

"Okay, you're right there. But you had better tell him, cause right now you seem to be avoiding him and he has no idea what he did wrong," Melody looked as Brighteyes got up and headed out of the cafeteria to her next class.

"Oh I hope she tells him," Sweetheart and Melody looked at each other, a little worried about what would happen.

Ace and Teddy spotted Lancer at his locker getting ready for his next class. Teddy smacked him in the back of his head. Ace chuckled as he watched Teddy.

"What was that for?" Lancer turned around to see who was there.

"What the hell were you thinking?"

"About what?"

"That ring,"

"How did you know?"

"Word spreads like wild fire between those girls since they're all so close. Now that Brighteyes has a promise ring they'll all want one."

"You just had to go and do that, you had to go screw up life for the rest of us," Teddy shock his head.

"Well, I don't know if she liked it,"

"WHAT!?!?"

"She's been avoiding me for a couple days now," Lancer put his head down.

"I don't understand, I thought all girls loved to get those promise rings," Ace said.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again, Brighteyes is just weird," Teddy laughed as he and Ace walked to their next class.

Moonbeam caught up with Thunder later that night to inform him of her decision. She explained to him that she wanted to get out of this town and do something great with her life, like become president. She really couldn't be tied down at this point in her life. Although Thunder was extremely heart broken, he could see where she was coming from and perhaps one day they will meet up again.

Lancer finally caught Brighteyes sitting under a tree outside the school. He took a deep breath and decided to find out what was going on between them.

"Bright. . .,"

"Lancer, please let me explain," Brighteyes searched for the right words and for once she was tongue-tied. She looked skywards for the answers.

"Okay, it's like this, honestly I was freaked. I mean you gave it to me and I didn't expect it at all. I didn't know our relationship was moving so quickly."

Lancer listened attentively to every word she said.

"We're both really young, only 17. Our lives are just getting started. I have to focus on college and a career. I'm definitely not. . .ready. . .for. . .a. . "

They both looked into each other's eyes and at the same time said, "the movie." Brighteyes giggled but Lancer didn't find it so funny.

"They broke up at the end, how is that funny? Is that going to happen to us?"

Brighteyes put on her serious face. "I don't know, what does this ring mean?" She pulled it out of her purse and showed it to him. "I don't want to break up but this thing really freaks me out."

"Okay, I know I surprised you with it. Maybe it wasn't the right time to give it to you. Think of it as a friendship ring. Brighteyes, your my best friend. I want you to know I'll always be there for you no matter where you go."

Brighteyes looked at the ring, "I can live with that," She put the ring back on the chain and back around her neck.

"So I still owe you ice cream for guessing the end of that movie don't I?" Lancer smiled and hugged her. Then the two of them got up and began their walk to the Ice Cream Shoppe.

The End
